Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve made a submission for the ‘puna mātauranga’ repository, why isn’t it listed?

The main reason will be that the website is updated monthly with information, kīhai i roa! won’t be long. Other factors might include:

  • the works feature but are not focussed on atua wāhine

  • the works are not by tāngata Māori

A response will be sent as soon as possible if any further information is required or to provide an update.

I want to create something about atua wāhine, can you support?

Yes! Heipūkarea can promote, provide access to our network as well as/or financial tautoko through our fund.

What does heipūkarea mean?

He mea keria mai i te kōpū o te pō te ingoa nei. Heipūkarea is a new word, a play on familiar kupu like ‘heipū’ - just, proper, ‘karea’ - desire, longing and ‘ipukarea’ - ancestral home. Our longing to remember and embody atua wāhine flows through, of and to us like a virtuous river. It is our right to know them, to reassert their presence in te taiao, in our lives, in our whakapapa.
